Happy Opening Day, North Flint Food Market! North Flint Food Market celebrated their store opening on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 with almost 1,000 co-op members and their entire community of supporters!

(Photo from Facebook) This cooperative grocery store is the first of its kind in the city of Flint, MI and is a part of a larger project, the North Flint Health & Wellness Hub. Chain grocers like Kroger and Meijer previously closed in North Flint, leaving much of the area without a grocery store. After 10 years of organizing and hard work, the Flint community now owns a full service grocery store with fresh produce, household items and supplies and a hot bar that exists to serve their community.

(Photo provided by Chris Dilley) “Remember this, we own it!” declared members and supporters during the dedication ceremony, where Board Chair Brigitte Brown Jackson, General Manager Patricia Wright, and co-founder Reverend Dr. Reginald Flynn gave their remarks and recognized the founding elders and community partners who made the co-op possible.
