The Lovettsville Cooperative Market is Now Open!

Lovettsville, Virginia is the latest community to open the doors to their food co-op! The  Lovettsville Cooperative Market (LCM) welcomed its 1,200+ member owners and full community into the full-service grocery store to shop for the first time last week on November 1st. This is a culmination of over a decade of organizing, planning, and business development work after incorporating their startup food co-op in 2011.

Cooperators from LCM first called FCI in 2010 as they were just getting started. FCI provided support in the early years of their organizing, including awarding the startup food co-op a Seedling Grant in 2011 and welcoming them to the Up & Coming Food Co-op Conference. It’s so exciting to see how they have evolved and grown from the early days to the co-op it is today!

LCM is a full-service grocery store with a strong focus on supporting the local food system. The store features over 70 local producers, including 20 from within their county alone! Opening day and the ribbon cutting ceremony was well-attended by the community; you you read more about it in this article from LoudonNow. The co-op is planning a Grand Opening Celebration on December 2nd.

Congratulations to everyone at Lovettsville Cooperative Market! This week marks the beginning of the next chapter of Lovettsville's cooperative community adventure, and we can't wait to see everything they will accomplish.

Thank you to FCI Board member Steve Cooke, who is the General Manager of Friendly City Food Co-op (which opened in 2011 just a couple of hours away, inspiring and mentoring the LCM team!), for attending the celebration and sharing these photos with us.
